LE
STUDIO, Formerly a hay barn, Le
Studio has now been converted into a single bedroomed maisonette
ideally equipped for 2 adults. There are 4 main rooms - kitchen (with
terrace above), lounge/diner, bedroom and bathroom with all rooms featuring
exposed Charentaise stonework and open beamed ceilings. Virtually all
the furniture is in pine, including double bed, dressing table, with a
Welsh dresser and drop leaf table and chairs downstairs. The kitchen features
all the usual things that you will require on holiday including gas cooker
with grille, washing machine and microwave, whilst the bathroom includes
cubicle shower, toilet, wash basin and bidet. French windows open out
from the lounge onto a secluded area which faces west. This area enjoys
evening sunshine - something that can be enjoyed even more with a glass
nearby!! |

The
terrace is a particular asset to the property as it is not only a real
sun trap, but also enjoys a lovely view over neighbouring farmland. Depending
on your time of visit, you could find yourself gazing over a spectacular
array of sunflowers or other arable crops. Two garden sun loungers and
parasol are also provided. Outside, and totally separate from the westerly
facing French Windows is a small enclosed garden with barbecue and garden
furniture. There is also a separate garage for your car where you will
also find two bicycles to enjoy the local countryside at your leisure.
Probably now is the time to mention that Le Studio has
been prepared for our own retirement - albeit in a few years time!! We
hope that you will appreciate that we have, for that very reason, put
every effort into making this accommodation as warm and acceptable as
you could want. |

Situated
in the Charente Maritime
village of Les Groies, Le
Studio is an ideal base when visiting the many attractions that
this region has to offer. The beaches at La
Rochelle are only 54kms. away, whilst the distilleries
at Cognac, lakes at Melle
and Matha are all within easy driving distance.
You could, of course, prefer to stay at home and spend some time relaxing
and soaking up the sunshine on the terrace or cycle peacefully alongside
the banks of the nearby river Boutonne where you can enjoy a glass of
your favourite tipple at an auberge. The village itself is very peaceful
with very little through traffic and although in the countryside, is only
one mile away from the nearest town of Loulay.
There are a number of superb value restaurants nearby with a typical 3
course meal costing as little as 10 Euros. |

ENTERTAINMENT
Water
will feature quite highly on your entertainment list. This not only applies
to children but also the somewhat 'bigger versions'. There is an outdoor
heated pool at Loulay which
is only one mile away. Quite a number of our guests tend to cycle to the
pool and spend the whole day there. There is also a £3 million pound
water complex that has recently opened in St.
Jean D'Angely which is only 20 minutes drive south. This
features 3 pools, water slide, diving boards, sauna, Jacuzzi and solarium.
There are 2 lakes - one at Melle
which is NE of the cottage, with the other at Matha,
which is about 35 minutes drive toward Cognac.
The River Boutonne is only 10 minutes cycle ride away and offers you a
paddle (I think I've spelt that right!!) in total peace and tranquility.
A watering hole is never too far away - something that I have found most
useful indeed!! The beaches from La Rochelle
south are absolutely beautiful, with the Atlantic breakers at Phare
de la Coubre (North East of Royan)
being quite magnificent. Don't forget, this is the Atlantic so they are
dangerous - please be aware. Finally, about 35 minutes drive north west
of the cottage, you will find the Venice Verte or "Green Venice"
and as the name suggests, this is the French equivalent of Venice and
gondolas, but in green!! You can spend an idyllic day here by paddling
your own punt around the slow moving waterways that criss cross a huge
area of beautiful green forest or indeed, hire your very own gondolier
(francais) and meander around the local forest in your own time. You are
on holiday - in no hurry at all - absolute bliss. Oh, and by the way,
a watering hole is usually available adjacent to the start/finish point.
Something that I felt was really important to point out to those who tend
to develop thirsts while on holiday!! Bonne Vacances!! |
